Sunday Activities

Shishukunj runs activities for children aimed at developing them to their full potential, to become well-rounded leaders of society.

Our activities encompass the full range of development – from intellectual, physical, social, spiritual and cultural. We do not align ourselves to any particular religion, and are open to children from all faiths and backgrounds.

The Sunday activities include:

  • 1 hour of Gujarati classes, where the emphasis is on learning through fun. The younger years concentrate on speaking and conversational skills, whilst older children work towards a GCSE qualification

  • Prayers, bhajans and sessions focusing on spirituality and religious awareness

  • Games - including both traditional Indian games and more modern competitive sport

  • Artistic workshops - including music, drama, crafts, dance, movie-making, talent-shows

  • A story with a moral, to impart positive values and principles

Through Shishukunj, you will see your child develop self-confidence and be exposed to the full range and breadth of opportunities, to spark their interest and fulfill their potential.

Our activities are run entirely by the youth, for the youth, and almost all are volunteers. This makes us virtually unique, with our teenagers acting as role models and guiding each child’s development.

As the children get older, they are given responsibilities to plan, organise and deliver activities for groups of children. Our youngsters develop key transferable skills of communicating to large and small groups of varying ages, project management, time management, team-working and leadership, which stand them in good stead to become successful in other areas of their lives and develop into the leaders of tomorrow's society.

Our philosophy is drawn from some of the great educationalists and inspirational leaders, such as Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Maria Montessori.
